What Does Tuning a Piano Do?

Tuning a piano entails modifying the tension of its strings, consequently changing their pitch, or frequency of vibration, by twisting the tuning pins to which they're attached, so that each string sounds pleasingly in harmony with the others.

Why Does a Piano Need to be Tuned?

Due to use and strain, piano strings can stretch over time, causing the piano to become out of tune. When pianos are tuned on a regular basis, they are easier to tune, stay in better shape, and retain their worth. Tuning on a regular basis also avoids damage caused by overstretched strings.
